So you’ve decided to visit our island, and if you’re smart and a sailor (contrary to popular belief the two are not mutually exclusive), you’re coming here to the Key Lime Sailing Club. So I thought you might want to know a little about the area.
Key Largo is the northernmost island in the Florida Keys archipelago. At about 32 miles long it’s the largest island in the Keys. There are about 11,000 full time residents on the island. It is part of a remnant of an ancient coral reef that flourished here about 125,000 years ago when sea levels were higher than now. Tourism is our major industry today, although decades ago the island was known for its plantations of Key Limes.
